Special Session Follow-Ups (Erich-Brost-Haus)

Sessions
FR-1

11:30-13:00

Session 1: Fuzzy Numbers and Fuzzy Arithmetic

Organizer: Przemyslaw Grzegorzewski,  Luciano Stefanini

This is a follow-up of the special session on "Fuzzy Numbers and Fuzzy Arithmetic". It will start with a short introduction by the organizers, followed by a round table discussion on the following topics: (1) New challenges in the field of fuzzy numbers, originating both in theory and practice (fuzzy calculus, fuzzy equations and fuzzy differential equations, ranking fuzzy numbers, fuzzy regression, etc.). (2) Fuzzy numbers and their approximations (new directions, useful representations, 3) Fuzzy numbers and related structures (intuitionistic fuzzy numbers, generalized fuzzy numbers, etc.). (4) Open problems.

Session 2: Pattern Recognition and Classification

Organizer: Anca Ralescu

This follow-up will focus on the discussion of (fuzzy) classifiers systems. In particular, the following questions shall be addressed: (1) What is the impact of the measure of similarity (or distance) on the classifier performance? (2) How can one evaluate the output of a fuzzy classifier in a proper way, and how to extend various criteria for the evaluation of classifier performance to the fuzzy case?

Session 3: Fuzzy Measures and Integrals

Organizer: Christophe Labreuche

The Choquet integral has been applied in many domains for more than 20 years. The applicative domains cover in particular multi-criteria decision aiding, decision under uncertainty, data fusion, and classification. The aim of this follow-up session is to (i) exchange the practices of the use of fuzzy measures and integrals in real applications, (ii) discuss on the major advances in fuzzy measures and integrals since their appearance, (iii) identify the scientific bottlenecks (for future research) required to address new classes of problems/applications.

Session 4: Uncertainty and Information Management in Open Source Intelligence

Organizer: Henrik Larsen

The problem considered is that of exploiting open sources (like the web and social media) for awareness in areas of interest (e.g., homeland security, competitor monitoring, sentiment monitoring) through information fusion/integration, information mining, pattern/sentiment/event/situation recognition, etc. Challenges and issues include: concept, entity, and event identification; management of uncertainty due to imperfections (e.g., identification ambiguities, incomplete information, inconsistent information, erroneous information and misinformation); privacy information management; knowledge representation and management. The first part of this follow-up will consist of 3-5 short presentations, each about 10 minutes. After a short break, this will be followed by a round table discussion.
