The module includes a critical examination of the fundamentals of economics. To this end, they are introduced to the fundamentals of scientific theory, the history of economic doctrines and orthodox and heterodox approaches in economics (plural economics). The course consists of a lecture and a seminar section in which students are asked to critically reflect on the foundations and methods of their subject using specific topics.


Qualification Goals

After completing the module, students will be able to

  • explain basic approaches to the theory of science, the history of economic dogma and alternative economic approaches,
  • think critically about the currently dominant approaches in economics and discuss and weigh up their advantages and disadvantages and
  • apply these skills to concrete examples, e.g. from economic policy.

Prerequisites

At least 18 credits in the advanced area Economics, Institutions, and Behavior.
