Contents

Basic Systematic Botany:

An overview of the characteristics and systematics of vascular plants and an introduction to the evolution and phylogenesis of plants and is given on an elementary basis. The biodiversity and systematics of the Bryophyta, Pteridophyta, Gymnospermae and Angiospermae are shown on selected species. On relevant example species of different taxa an overview of trait progressions, development cycles and generation changes is given.

Basic knowledge of mycology:

The basics of mycology are presented on an elementary basis. An introduction to the evolution and phylogenesis of fungi is given. An insight into the biodiversity of fungi is given on selected species. On relevant example species of different taxa an overview of the characteristic progressions and their development cycles is given.

Endangered Ecosystems:

This course teaches the ecological and genetic principles in nature and species conservation with a botanical focus, as well as the derived principles for sustainable management of endangered ecosystems and genetic resources (examples: floodplain landscapes, forest ecosystems).

Species Knowledge Botany:

The objective of this course is to provide species knowledge of angiosperms and an introduction to Central European flora. In this course the identification of macroscopically recognizable plants with the help of identification keys should be learned and intensively practiced. At the end of the course each participant should be able to assign the macroscopically recognizable species of the Central European flora to a taxonomic category. For this purpose, a herbarium will be prepared by each participant of the module. For this purpose, biological peculiarities of individual taxa and their importance for Central European habitats will be discussed.

Field practical course on the flora of Central Europe:

The field exercises serve to further deepen the skills acquired in the course hall for the identification of plants. Furthermore, participants will be introduced to habitats typical of Central Europe and their specific plant species. Adaptations of plants to environmental conditions will be shown and explained in the field.


Qualification Goals

The module serves to acquire the theoretical and practical basics of botany and nature conservation. It provides introductory knowledge of plant and fungal systematics and an overview of the flora of Central Europe as well as skills in addressing macroscopic plants. It introduces the composition of native ecosystems and conservation biology issues.
