Contents

In seminar.

Reading, comprehension and presentation of original papers or current review articles.

In exercise.

CO2 fixation pathways, anaerobic respiration, fermentations; lactic acid bacteria, clostridia, sulfate reducers, methanogenic bacteria, and others; gene regulation, mutation and genetic analysis, plasmids, mechanisms of gene transfer, bacteriophages, transposons, DNA repair and mutagenesis, global adaptation mechanisms.

Qualification Goals

Students will build on the ''Fundamentals of Microbiology'' to learn the ''Biochemistry and Molecular Biology of Microorganisms'' while deepening their understanding of biological relationships. The origin of metabolic pathways, CO2 fixation, fermentations, methanogenesis, methane oxidation, aromatic metabolism, tetrapyrrole biosynthesis; introduction to bacterial genetics, gene cloning, genetic tools, stress responses, and transport processes will be taught.

Prerequisites
