Contents

Evolution and functional morphology of animals; elaboration of basic phenomena of metabolic, nervous and sensory physiology. Practical use of microscope and stereo magnifier. Exemplary preparation of animal organisms, presentation of observations; exemplary electrophysiological and metabolic physiological measurements. Evolution and blueprints of animals; basic principles of embryogenesis and organogenesis; adaptation to aquatic life and transition to terrestrial life; evolution and biology of mammals and humans. Basic concepts of neurophysiology, sensory physiology, muscle physiology, respiration, circulation, digestion, and hormone physiology. Use of microscope, stereo magnifier and dissecting instruments; independent dissection of animals of various levels of organization; documentation and presentation techniques. Course objects: e.g., Hydra, Laomedea; Lumbricus; carp; nerve conduction in earthworm; sensory function (insect antenna); detection and function of digestive enzymes; tested protocol.

Acquisition of basic knowledge in the fields of evolution and functional morphology of animals; development of basic phenomena of metabolic, nervous and sensory physiology. Practical use of microscope and stereo magnifier. Exemplary preparation of animal organisms, presentation of observations; exemplary electrophysiological and metabolic physiological measurements.

Qualification goals:

The module provides basic biological knowledge in animal anatomy and physiology.
