Contents

Various forms of institutions (markets, laws, social norms, political institutions, etc.) are discussed. An understanding of the development of different institutions and their effect on the behavior of individuals is provided. An overview of the major theoretical approaches in institutional economics will be provided.


Qualification Goals

Students acquire an understanding of institutions as solutions to societal problems of cooperation and coordination and recognize explanations for cultural differences in the institutional structure. They acquire the competence to apply various institutional economic approaches to simple problems and to evaluate alternative institutional solutions to problems using formal methods.
