In the seminar

Introduction to basic ethical positions; outlines of the history of biology; special applications of the philosophy of science (model and modeling, explanation, structure of functional and historical theories); philosophy of science as critique of science.

Relationship of the natural sciences to each other; critical understanding of scientific justifications; special applications of philosophy of science (model and modeling, explanation, structure of functional and historical theories); philosophy of science as critique of science; historical development of central biological theories (evolution, genetics, ecology, morphology).


Qualification Goals

Interdisciplinary overview of the basic forms of modern philosophy of science; introduction to basic ethical positions; basic outlines of the history of biology; basic knowledge of general epistemology and philosophy of science; responsibility in the modern sciences; principles and results of the development of knowledge. The module provides qualifications suitable for all professional fields in the field of organismic and molecular biosciences, especially with regard to their ethical relevance and public perception.
