Contents

Optics: electromagnetic theory of light, geometrical optics, wave properties of light, optical devices, lasers, nonlinear optics.

Quantum phenomena and atomic structure: Wave-particle duality, radiation laws, properties of photons, electrons, Bohr atomic model, wave function of particles, wave packets, uncertainty relations, Schrödinger equation, tunneling phenomena, quantization of bound states, atomic structure.


Qualification Goals

Upon completion of the module, students will be able to name basic definitions from the field of optics and quantum phenomena and explain physical methods and working procedures of the field as well as describe central experimental findings mathematically. Students will be able to explain the importance of experiment and theoretical modeling, in particular they will be able to recognize and define the different concepts of wave optics and wave mechanics. They possess the ability to solve given tasks from optics and simple tasks from the field of quantum phenomena by applying the methods they have learned in the module.
