Contents

In the seminar

Theoretical and technical principles of light microscopy (bright field, phase and interference contrast, fluorescence, confocal laser scanning microscopy (KLSM) and nanoscopy); structural dynamics of the cell; examples of advanced light microscopy applications; introduction to the fundamentals of digital image processing.

In the exercise.

Practical introduction to the technique of advanced light microscopic techniques (phase and interference contrast, epifluorescence, confocal laser scanning microscopy (KLSM)); suitable specimens will be examined comparatively using the various techniques as examples, digitally documented and prepared for display/analysis using image processing software.

Qualification Goals

Students will become familiar with the theoretical, technical, and practical principles of advanced light microscopic methods and the fundamentals of digital image processing and the potential applications of these techniques for elucidating intra- and intercellular structure-function relationships and their dynamics.

Prerequisites

None.

Applicability

Module imported from B.Sc. Biologie.

When studying B.Sc. Mathematics, this module can be attended in the study area Minor subject Biology.
