Contents

Microscopic structure of matter, chemical, ionic, metallic bonding, crystal structures, diffraction and reciprocal lattice, dynamics of the lattice, elastic properties, thermal properties, electrical conductivity, free electrons, band structure, semiconductors, magnetism, superconductivity. Methods of structural analysis and measurement methods for determining properties, as well as concepts of modeling solid state properties.

Qualification Goals

Upon completion of the module, students will be able to name basic definitions from the field of solid state physics and explain physical methods and working methods of the field as well as describe central experimental findings mathematically. The students are able to explain the importance of experiment and theoretical model building. They possess the ability to classify given problems from solid state physics and to recognize ways to solve them and to successfully follow the solution path in simple cases by applying the methods they have learned in the module.

Prerequisites

None.

Applicability

Module imported from B.Sc. Physik.

When studying M.Sc. Mathematics, this module can be attended in the study area Minor subject Physics.
