Contents

Learn practical techniques for breaking security systems and cryptographic procedures, specifically:

  • Server hardening
  • Network security
  • intrusion detection
  • Working with security patterns
  • Web services security
  • Introduction to cryptanalysis
  • role of keys, IVs and nonces in practical systems
  • Selected practical attack techniques (time-memory tradeoffs, password cracking, meet-in-the-middle attacks, statistical attacks)

Qualification Goals

Students will

  • know selected techniques for breaking security systems and learn cryptographic procedures,
  • are able to implement these in practice (implementation and project work), especially with regard to server security, network security, computer-aided analysis of cryptographic procedures and security architectures,
  • know ethical and legal concerns of hacking.

Prerequisites

None. The competences taught in the following modules are recommended: Introduction to Cryptography and its Applications, IT-Security.
