Hi, this a short version, translating all text
would be too much work for our project.
I hope you understand this.
But now, about us and our project:
The faculty of computer science
in Marburg started in april a film-project in cooperation with other faculties
( Media, Sociology...).
The film is supposed to inform
the auditorium about the cultural and social structures in the Internet.
This team is supposed to present
art in the Internet.
And this is what we found out:
- We first tried
to define art with historical aspects.
The term
art has, especially in times of defining technologies and culture, changed.
Initially
the the term art comes from Skill, that means, art was a from god coming
mastery.
Every subject has its art: art of cooking, art of war, art of love,
art of living etc.
The artist
was working as a contractor, like a designer today. With the beginning
of
the renaissance
the term art began to be new defined. Art began to be "the fine arts".
One of
the reasons may be the secularization of art. Representation is reputation.
Artists
began to be depended on kings and Dutch's. Art parted into the noble art
and the
craftsman-art.
Imanuel
Kant gave the art a new dimension: the esthetic.
The contemplation
of the object without interests than those to the object
( aspect
of reason) and the beautiful in it ( aspect of cognition) creates in correspondence
of both
the esthetic experience, that causes pleasure or reluctance ( esthetic
judgment).
The highest
purpose of art is being beautiful, but there are no objective Rules, that
tell
us, what
is beautiful and what isn't. This was the first step to a subjective appreciation
of
art, for
"l'art pour l'art" ( since the 19. century).
Today,
the idea of a always valid definition of art is impossible. The assessment
of art
is now
left to the individual.
We, the
authors think of art as an creative act, that needs a creative idea, before.
- Computer
generated art are graphics, animations, sounds.
- Art
with and on the Internet:
When we began to work on this
project, we thought that we would find lots of art
on the Internet. The kind of
art, we meant, should take the Net for subject or be specific
for the Internet and so only
exist there. We didn't expect to surf in a Data suit from one
cyber-orgy to an other, but
we thought to find some performances, interactive art and
perhaps things, that are so
new and novel, that we can not imagine how it could look
like, to find:
But there are so many tools,
such a good infrastructure in the Internet that there
should be lots of possibilities.
What we found was Art on the
Internet, art you can print or review on a video recorder,
nothing specific.
- Our results from our last point made
us to think about he reasons.
One reason can be the low fluctuation
on the Net -
but this can not be all reason
- so we decided, that the medium is to young to talk about
things like an art-scene or
something like this.
One reason can be the way of
thinking, we have to think more global, more free, to
really use the Internet.
graphic artists think in a form
of pictures, static - film and theater artists think in moved
pictures - performance artists
think in life acts ( :-) )
What way will net artist choose?
We don't know, but we have the
opinion, that the Net can be more than paper, a wall,
canvas, celluloid,...
Future will show.
Thanks a lot to everyone who answered our questions!
Here they are for others, you can still mail us!
We are looking for statements to the following questions:
- Do you think art in the Net "real art"?
- Give a statement to art in the Internet.
- Why do you publish your art on the Net?
- How do you evaluate the possibilties of the Net?
- How do you evaluate the prospects of the Internet?
