Welcome to Discrete Mathematics and Combinatorics

Our group is concerned with structures from discrete mathematics that arise in pure and applied mathematics and computer science. The class of these structures includes graphs, partially ordered sets, abstract simplicial complexes and polytopes. Our connections to pure mathematics include the fields of algebraic topology and commutative algebra. Combinatorial optimization and computational geometry are among the links to applied mathematics and computer science. By solving combinatorial problems we try to give new inside to problems arising in these fields. Conversely, many interesting purely combinatorial problems are stimulated by questions asked in these neighboring areas.
