Mycology (VL):

This lecture provides an overview into the various topics of mycology. The following topics will be covered: Introduction to the systematics of the Eumycota, basics of substrate utilization, wood decomposition, soil mycology, interaction systems with other organisms (mycorrhiza, animal and plant symbioses, building mycology, "imperfect fungi", necrotrophic and biotrophic parasites, biotechnological applications in mycology, molecular biological and medical aspects of mycology Morphology, anatomy and ultrastructure of fungal organisms, lichens.

Mycology (SE):

By means of presentations on current results, the participants will gain an insight into modern questions, methods and approaches in mycology. The focus is on topics that are scientifically worked on in the AG Mykologie.

Mycology (UE):

Within the course an overview of the system of fungi and the most important taxa is given. Sterile work with fungal cultures as well as the preparation of microscopic preparations of fresh and herbarium material are trained. The selection of organisms will focus on practical aspects (phytopathogens, biotechnology, etc.).

Biodiversity & Interactions of Fungi:

During two 1-day field trips, an introduction to the trait diversity and biodiversity of native fungal species will be provided. The specific ecological adaptations of higher fungi in forest biotopes will be shown. Representatives of the economically important fungal parasite groups with their characteristic infestation patterns will also be shown: powdery and downy mildew, rust and blight fungi, wood and special plant parasites.


Qualification Goals

Students will learn the most important fundamentals of mycology. Practical skills in dealing with fungi will be taught in addition to theoretical knowledge. Students will be enabled to apply mycological techniques. In addition, students will be introduced to current issues in mycology.
