9 CP
Course requirement(s): Written examination. A resit can be taken as oral examination.
Examination type: The admission to the module examination can be made dependent on the successful completion of the learning and performance tests.
The grading is done with 0 to 15 points according to the examination regulations for the degree program B.Sc. Physik.
One semester,
each winter semester
Person in charge of the module's outline k.A.

Classical field theory and special relativity:

Relativistic kinematics and dynamics, electrostatics (boundary value problems, Green functions), magnetostatics, Maxwell's equations, conservation laws, electromagnetic radiation and waves, relativistic formulation of electrodynamics.

Classical thermodynamics and statistical physics:

Thermodynamic concepts and basic postulates, main laws of thermodynamics (energy, entropy); elements of probability theory, ensembles, Gibbs entropy, ideal gas.

Qualification Goals

Students learn the basics of theoretical-mathematical description of physical phenomena of electrodynamics and heat. Students will be able to independently apply the mathematical principles of physical model building and the methods of classical field theory and thermodynamics/statistical physics. The module serves to establish and expand general mathematical-analytical skills.
