Contents
In the seminar
Theoretical basics of transmission electron microscopy; theoretical basics of preparation of specimens; examples of transmission electron microscopic applications; introduction to the basics of digital image processing.
In the exercise
Demonstration and operation of the large-scale TEM instrument. Microscopy of light and electron microscopy example preparations. Production and microscopy of own preparations. Preparation of digital image material with image processing software for display/analysis.
Qualification Goals
Knowledge of the theoretical and practical principles of transmission electron microscopy, digital image processing and the potential applications of these techniques. Different techniques for preparation will be presented and suitable objects and specimens will be examined as examples, and the image processing software used will be demonstrated and applied. At the end of the module, the procedures and possible applications of the methods presented should be known, as well as the basic cell structures (and their functions) of prokaryotes and eukaryotes.
Prerequisites
None.
Applicability
Module imported from B.Sc. Biologie.
When studying M.Sc. Computer Science, this module can be attended in the study area Minor subject Biology.
