Contents
In this module, basic ways of thinking and working in college mathematics are addressed and practiced with examples. In particular, the focus is on problem-solving strategies and on reading and writing mathematical texts.
Qualification Goals
Building on the module "Working with University Mathematics I", students deepen their skills in university mathematical working methods: They will be able to process the definitions, theorems, and proofs presented in lectures and texts in such a way that they can confidently use them in their own mathematical work. They can confidently distinguish university mathematics ways of working from school mathematics ways of working and confidently use university mathematics ways of working, especially in relation to the requirements set in the basic modules on calculus.
Furthermore, they have strategies for working with problem-solving tasks and can use them confidently (e.g. in exercise problems). They are able to record solutions they have worked out in written form in accordance with the standards of the subject.
Prerequisites
None.
Applicability
The module can be attended at FB12 in study program(s)
- B.Sc. Mathematics
- B.Sc. Business Mathematics
When studying B.Sc. Mathematics, this module must be completed in the study area Basic Modules in Mathematics.
The module is only available as part of the 7-semester Bachelor's degree program (extended study entry).
