One-particle quantum mechanics: Correspondence principle, Schrödinger equation, observables and their operators, eigenvalue problems, uncertainty relations, angular momentum, hydrogen atom, representations, stationary perturbation theory, variational methods, scattering theory, time-dependent perturbation theory.

Qualification Goals

Students acquire a sound working knowledge of the basic concepts of quantum mechanics. They learn the mathematical methods and physical models used in single-particle quantum mechanics. The basic knowledge imparted is an essential prerequisite for the more advanced modules of the course and the description of many phenomena in modern physics.
