Contents
- Fundamentals of system software: tasks, processes, resource management, synchronization, jamming, memory management, file systems, input/output, virtualization, Unix introduction.
- Basics of computer communication: protocols: ISO-OSI, TCP/IP. Data transfer: twisted pair, coax, fiber, bit coding, modulation techniques; Networks: LANs, WANs, GANs, MANs, Ethernet, Token Ring, bridges, routers, FDDI, ATM.
- Internet: TCP/UDP/IP protocols, Internet addresses, routing, DNS, ARP, FTP, e-mail, HTTP, WWW.
Qualification Goals
Students will
- know the basic concepts of system software,
- know how to use Unix operating system commands,
- know the methods of computer communication,
- know the concepts of the Internet,
- are able to follow scientific working methods (recognizing, formulating, solving problems, training the ability of abstraction),
- are able to speak freely about scientific content, both in front of an audience and in a discussion.
